First of all, I’ll like to say I thought #Jollof was spelt #Jellof… Until the “interconnected net” proved me wrong. Don’t squeeze your face. We learn everyday. Don’t we? 🙈
This post is quite overdue, but it’s better late than never.
One thing I love about Twitter is the HASHTAG TREND. When a #Hashtag is really interesting, you could spend hours laughing away your pain. I never knew JOLLOF RICE had a day until the twitter community began hashtaging #Jollofrice and #WorldjollofriceDay.
Prior to that, I had updated my Facebook status :
I REFUSED TO BE TREATED LIKE WHITE RICE. I REJECT IT. I AM JOLLOF RICE. PARTY JOLLOF RICE. WITH FRIED PLANTAIN AND CHICKEN AND PLENTY ONION…
I got inspiration for this post after the #JollofRiceDay.
When someone says “I AM JOLLOF RICE, don’t treat me like WHITE RICE”, the person is simply saying “I’ve been through thick and thin”. More like, “I’ve been boiled, fried, burnt, spiced, oiled, salted… and yet I still came out beautiful and sweet”
Let’s assume you are JOLLOF RICE. Now, imagine all the stuff you’ve been through. How you had to learn life lessons the hard way, how you cried so hard, how you felt so rejected and abandoned, how those you loved so much disappointed you, how you coped with the death of that dear friend, mother, sister, father… Just remember all the shit you’ve been through and how hard you ploughed to become the COLOURFUL HUMAN YOU ARE TODAY…
Now, imagine someone trying to treat you like SHIT all over again??? After all the BOILING AND SPICING…
Are you going to close your eyes and accept such BULLSHIT? NO!
YOU HAVE BEEN THROUGH A LOT. SO FEEL FREE TO TELL THEM YOU ARE NOT AN ORDINARY WHITE RICE. SO PLAIN. TELL THEM YOU ARE PARTY JOLLOF RICE.
This is way too funny. Imagine you are JOLLOF rice again, sweet and tasty. Very obvious. Imagine someone trying to make you “over-sweet”, not for you, but for themselves. Like they keep telling you, you have to add this here, you have to do this one, you have to do that one…
MY DEAR, FEEL FREE TO TELL THEM AGAIN, YOU ARE NOT WHITE RICE! WHITE RICE IS THE ONE THAT REQUIRES STEW O. WHITE RICE HASN’T BEEN THROUGH THE KIND OF THINGS YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH… YOU TASTE GOOD ALREADY BUT IF THEY DON’T TRUST AND BELIEVE IN YOU, THEN THEY SHOULD FUCK-OFF. YUP! YOU’VE BEEN THROUGH THICK AND THIN REMEMBER? YOU DON’T HAVE TO BEG SOMEONE TO “EAT” YOU LIKE THAT. YOUR AROMA WILL DRAW PEOPLE TO YOU.
They should trust you to be the best for them.
This one is short and simple. No body likes Concoction jollof rice. (Sometimes everybody likes it shaa😂😂)
You have to be yourself, I mean, who else is better qualified?
We are never too sure about Concoction jollof. It’s kind of confusing when eating because you keep thinking “Am I eating white rice or jollof rice”?
So it’s simple. Do not be a two-faced person. If you want to be white rice, make it clear, If you want to be a party jollof rice make it clear also.
Original or nothing. Be yourself. Photocopy isn’t allowed. In fact, concoction jollof is the reason people add stew. 😂

Wow! The burnt part… It got me thinking. Our BURNT PARTS are our IMPERFECTIONS, OUR FLAWS, OUR FAULTS …
Most people throw the burnt parts away forgetting that they enjoyed the top, reddish, sweet part. They get to the bottom of the pot, get angry at the burnt jollof rice and then they THROW IT AWAY!
Now, while we have the THROWERS, we have those that will genuinely say “KEEP THE BURNT PART FOR ME OOO” and you will see them eating and scraping it.
This is what I’m trying to say, if someone loves you, they should love you with all your faults, your burnt parts, those hidden parts no one wants to see ; they should be able to see that part and love you for who you are because, trust me, when they get to see all of you and decide to stay, it won’t matter if you were burnt. After all, ONCE A JOLLOF RICE, ALWAYS A JOLLOF RICE…
Yes, we know we are JOLLOF RICE – HOT AND SWEET. But we all know jollof rice is sweeter with the other “orishirishis”. Examples : PLANTAIN, FISH, CARROT, GREEN PEPPER, ONION, CHICKEN, EGG etc…
Imagine you are jollof rice again (😂😂), you know you are “complete”, would you want to just ABANDON YOURSELF? Mbanunu. No! Everyday strive to be a better person. Spice up your life. Learn new skills, Read more books, keep fit, acquire more degrees, FORGIVE PEOPLE, make new friends, LAUGH AWAY YOUR PAIN, accept your faults and change for the better… FALL HOPELESSLY IN LOVE WITH YOUR SELF! Because you are solely responsible for yourself when others fail you.
With this is mind, when next someone tries to treat you like shit, like you don’t matter, like white rice…. Tell them :
I AM JOLLOF RICE. PARTY JOLLOF RICE. THE LIFE OF THE PARTY! YOU MAKE THINGS HAPPEN. GOOD THINGS HAPPEN.
I’m summary : LEARN TO CARRY YOURSELF WELL.
SELF-CONFIDENCE + GOOD SELF-ESTEEM = HAPPY LIFE!
After all is said and done, remember, JOLLOF RICE can never be loved by all. No matter how sweet and garnished. They will always give reasons for not loving jollof. And you can’t force them to eat it BIKO, you will only make them PUKE. But not to worry, those who love jollof are still there. Waiting to eat it…
UPDATE : I love rice. White, Fried or Jollof! 😂😂😂. But I’m very skeptical about eating WHITE RICE OUTSIDE.
