My people? How was your Saturday?
I spent the better half of my Saturday morning walking to support the IREDE FOUNDATION! My legs hurt terribly now but it was worth it. Continue reading “Out On A Limb Walk – THE IREDE FOUNDATION”

MY BAD HABITS : Trichotillomania AND Coca-Cola

I made a decision. A decision to be brutally honest with my self. I used to have only one place where I could be really honest with my self – A BOOK, SOMEWHERE IN MY ROOM (Named Stella – In memory of my best friend…)
I needed a second place – MY BLOG (Named Adrielnaline – from my name, Adriel…)

Writing is my therapy. I never really understood it until few months ago. I have written so well in the last few months. Things I would never have written if I didn’t make writing my therapy.

So, since we are being all honest, let’s talk about bad habits!

I have TWO bad habits that I’ve been battling with. Just so you know, I did some thorough soul searching and as far as I’m concerned I HAVE ONLY TWO BAD HABITS left to work on.

I’m not perfect. I’m just perfectly flawed.

I know what you are thinking now. Yeah, nobody does that. Only ADRIEL. I can’t really remember how and when and why it started. I just noticed that one day I woke up and all my eye lashes were gone. I was looking like an OWL!
I’ve tried so hard to stop it, but mehn……

I have battled with this thing. At a point I had to go online in search for “ASSOCIATION OF EYE LASH PULLERS” and to my surprise, I WASN’T THE ONLY ONE!

So I found that it was a “condition” – Trust ndi obodoyibo to give everything and anything a name.

(/ˌtrɪkəˌtɪləˈmeɪniə/trik-ə-til-ə-may-nee, also known as trichotillosis or hair pulling disorder). It is an Impulse Control Disorder characterized by the compulsive urge to pull out one’s hair, leading to hair loss and balding, distress, and social or functional impairment.
Trichotillomania is defined as a self-induced and recurrent loss of hair. It includes the criterion of an increasing sense of tension before pulling the hair and gratification or relief when pulling the hair.

Trichotillomania is often not a focused act, but rather hair pulling occurs in a “trance-like” state. Other individuals may have focused, or conscious, rituals associated with hair pulling, including seeking specific types of hairs to pull, pulling until the hair feels “just right”, or pulling in response to a specific sensation. (I don’t want to bore you with too much medical grammar).

I try to restrain my self when ever I feel the urge to pull them off, it works for a while…I see them growing again, I’m happy…and KABOOM!!!…I’m back to looking like an OWL.
And the whole cycle continues.
In order to cover this up, I do the whole smoky eyes thing with my black eye shadow or I just stick to my MOTHER HER FRAMES, making a conscious effort not to remove them until I get to my room.

The struggle is real. I believe I’ll over come this habit. I’m trying so hard. Like why won’t I have eyelashes????

Mum says it’s from THE PIT OF HELL!!! Hahahaha!!!

More than its a bad habit, it’s a serious medical condition. There are worse cases and scenarios.
Anyways, now we now it’s a medical condition and it goes from pulling off eyelashes to pulling off hairs on the entire skin. But I won’t get to that stage. AMEN.

If you have same problem, you are not alone sweetie and we can work our way around this.

Here are some links to help you with Trichotillomania.

These should help. You may still want to carry out your own research. Just Google the word “Trichotillomania”.

Okay. I have written. Hopefully, coming out on my blog will make me more conscious.

Coca-Cola really made a hell of money with the name tagging business. I made it a point to drink a bottle of coke with the name of ANYONE I knew. This pix was taken sometime in January and after a long search...I FOUND MY NAME. PET NAME.

I can’t even begin to explain my addiction to coke. In fact, I was sipping from the #50 coke bottle while I was writing this post.
I think I inherited this trait from my Father. Yeah, just so you know, bad habits could be passed down.
I made a decision few months ago not to take coke anymore and I stood by it. But then, exams came. I needed the sugar. There was no time to even boil hot water. I went back again to the coke addiction.

I have just one paper left. I’m really hoping I won’t be needing coke again after the exams.

I may WANT it. Lol

Basically, these are my struggles and battles.
What are yours? Have you had bad habits that you suddenly stopped? How did you stop them? And are you currently battling with any bad habit? Feel free to drop a comment and let’s see how we can overcome them together.

N/B: Ndi Obodoyibo means WHITE PEOPLE.

Love xoxo

T for TRUPPR and F for FITNESS

I woke up like that. Literally.

I love this picture.
Aside the fact that I look damn PRETTY AND CUTE, it reminds of how far I’ve come in my truppr journey. What started “halz a jolking stuffz” has turned into a full blown passion.

I remember my first truppr Run. One crazy 5km RUN, it was scary.

My first Truppr Run. Can you spot me?

I never saw it necessary to do any fitness thing, I was literally pushed into it. After each run, I realized that I was always happier, I always feel all the “ADRIELNALINE” screaming at my senses and touching them at the same time.

I love the way my heart beats faster.
The rush of “ADRIELNALINE ” in my veins.
The way I breathe.
The way I pant so hard.
I love the heat that emanates from my body during the cold mornings.
The continuous gasping for breath.
The feeling of exhilaration when I meet my mark.
A bitter-sweet experience.
I dread it but I always look forward to it.

Recently, I graduated from the Saturday morning Truppr run to running/Jogging on my own every morning, especially when I don’t have early morning classes. I take long walks. The beauty of waking up every morning and taking long walks and runs can’t be over emphasized. It gives me some alone time to think and clear my head.

I work out. I do sit-ups, squats, crunches and what have you???!!!
Recently I read something where Muhammad Ali said “I don’t count my sit-ups. I only start counting when it starts hurting. When I feel pain, that’s when I start counting, because that’s when it really counts.”

I started doing this and I must say “irris not ealzy.”

Being committed to this has also made me committed and dedicated in all other areas of my life. It has taught me DISCIPLINE.
I strive daily to be a better person.

And there are times when the temptation comes, like when I’m tempted to TAKE A BOTTLE OF COKE and sometimes I fall into this trap. But, Hey, I’m not where I used to be.

Anyways, these are some of my Truppr Pictures and just in case you are reading this and you are in IBADAN, OYO STATE, NIGERIA, feel free to stop by.

How I became a fitness junkie, I DO NOT KNOW!!!

So I did this Video of my friend and I after one of our 10km WALK. Click here to see.

OK so the guy in the middle is EKEMINI!!! GOOD LORD knows nobody can keep up with HIM.
No!!! Don't snap me

This post is dedicated to my dear friend PAUL ALASIRI, who just realized I was secretly in love with him – thanks to the weird Facebook app. Paul is also head of Truppr Run UI. This guy does 10km run like it’s nothing.

Hello Paul!

And this post is also dedicated to my dearest roommate and friend who takes it upon herself to record my work-out sessions. I have no idea why.

😘😍. Roommate. Friend. Sister

You never know how far you can go until you try. This also applies to every other area of your life. Keep trying. Never give up!

If you’re not where you want to be in your life, it’s probably because you’re stuck inside of your own comfort zone.

It’s easy to do what you’re used to doing and stay within the confines of least resistance, but if you want to make progress in your life, you need to break free from what holds you back. Here are 6 reasons why your comfort zone may be holding you back in life and what you can do to change that.

1. By not taking risks, you never really discover your true self.

Living in your comfort zone is all about doing what is safe and easy: you know the outcome. If you’re afraid to take some risks and do something that scares you, or that by doing you don’t know how things will end up, you can never really understand who you truly are.

We find out a lot about ourselves when we take risks. We find out what we’re made of. We discover what makes us tick, and begin to see that part of ourselves deep inside, our true self, the one that holds the wisdom and power most of us are unaware of. When you can connect to your true self, you open doors to change, growth, progress, love, and understanding that cannot be found inside your comfort zone.

2. It’s almost impossible to grow and learn while stuck inside your comfort zone.

You can’t grow as a human being by following the path that’s already lit. As AJ Leon says, “Don’t follow well lit paths; grab a machete and hack down your own.” You learn more about yourself taking the road less traveled. You see and experience things you may never have if you’d stayed with what was comfortable.

With knowledge and growth comes an increased ability to do things in your life you never dreamed possible. All you have to do is start hacking.

3. If you stay in your comfort zone when faced with difficulties, you end up postponing your life goals.

A scenario that I’ve seen happen time and time again is one where you are faced with a difficult situation in your life and instead of facing it head on and overcoming it, you take a step back into your comfort zone. This is a major red flag when it comes to your goals in life and not being able to achieve them.

Your life goals are important. When difficulties come up—and they will—you need to be brave enough to keep moving forward. It’s really easy to just jump back into your routine, but postponing your goals now will make them more difficult to achieve later on. Find the courage to push through the hard things and you’ll be glad you did later on.

4. When life becomes routine, you lose a part of yourself.

Comfort feels all cozy and warm when you’re in it, but it’s also a double-edged sword. You stay comfortable for too long and you begin to get bored, lazy, content. And then you’re just primed to be another walking, talking zombie: just another spoke on the wheel with no meaning other than maintaining the status quo.

Routine is a part of your comfort zone. It may be satisfying you for now, but meanwhile you’re losing your ability to open up your true self and share your gifts with the world. When you lose that, you lose the ability to create anything meaningful for your life. That not only hurts your life, but those around you, including the rest of the world, which is being neglected by another wasted opportunity to show your true greatness.

5. You get lost by following the crowd.

Life is so much more fulfilling when you are constantly learning, growing, connecting, and making dents in the Universe by releasing your greatness to the world. When you are living within your comfort zone, all of that disappears. You become lost in the crowd, another krill in a swarm, headed in one direction.

Break out of that comfort zone and you will start to be noticed. You’ll no longer be a follower, you’ll become a leader. You have the ability to set an example and pull other lost souls out as well. When you start to become noticed, you start to move forward in your life. Greater opportunities present themselves, other people will look up to you, and the world will be a better place with you out there making waves.

6. The unknown is where dreams are made.

The unknown is a magical place where dreams come true and life happens. Your comfort zone is a predictable place where dreams die and life stalls. It’s pretty simple when you think about it. Stay within your comfort zone and keep hoping, wishing, and dreaming of a better life, or take a step into the unknown and create your own version of how you want your life to look.

…STEP OUTTA YOUR COMFORT ZONE, TO THE REALMS OF THE UNKNOWN… And for a ‘musical’ understanding of your comfort zone, i suggest you listen to CASTING CROWNS ; VOICE OF TRUTH…
