As sojourners, we set out believing there were no obstacles
We progressed thinking falling was impossible
We were wrong to have thought the road was without debacles
We were foolish to think there would be no crucibles
“Fine baby, kedu? I just read your blog. First let me apologise, for not reading it until now. That said, I am so very proud of you Chi. You’re so talented. I found the blogs both educating and intellectually stimulating. I see myself perusing your blog from now on. Please keep on writing and I’ll keep on reading.“
First of all, I’ll like to say I thought #Jollof was spelt #Jellof… Until the “interconnected net” proved me wrong. Don’t squeeze your face. We learn everyday. Don’t we? 🙈
This post is quite overdue, but it’s better late than never. Continue reading “HASHTAG : JOLLOF RICE!”→
“Every man dies – Not every man really lives.” ~ William Ross
So I asked my roommate last night, “Nelo what’s in your bucket list?” you know what she said? “Soap and Sponge”…. I couldn’t even stop laughing.
I have been doing a lot of thinking lately. I just let my mind wander and drift. I let my self dream and let my thoughts wander as far as possible.
Finally it landed on a mine – BUCKET LIST!!!
If you haven’t heard about the term “bucket list”, it is a list of all the goals you want to achieve, dreams you want to fulfill and life experiences you desire to experience before you die.
The Brevity Of Life.
Do you ever wonder if you are just living or merely existing?
When was the last time you did something challenging? Ever feel your days are passing you by without any tangible output to speak of? What did you accomplish in the past 3 months? What are your upcoming goals for the next 3 months? Look at the things you did and the things you’re planning to do next – Do they mean anything to you if you are to die today? Having a bucket list reminds you of what’s really important so you can act on them.
Bucket list is a platform to set anything and everything you’ve ever wanted to do, whether it’s big, small or random. Mundane or extraordinary.
To cut the long story here’s my BUCKET LIST!!!! (Just few of them on the blog for today. Others should be in the journal somewhere in the room…winks***). I feel sharing them on my blog will make me more committed and dedicated and accountable.
1) GRADUATE FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF IBADAN BY 2016!!! This is not only a Bucket List but a PRAYER! In my country Nigeria, there’s this thing called “ASUU”. They kinda regulate the academic calendar through strike actions and you find out that people stay in school much longer than they should. I celebrated two Birthdays in my Second year no thanks to ASUU and really I’m praying such doesn’t happen again. So top of the bucket list is to graduate with my LLB degree come 2016.
2)LEARN TO PLAY THE GUITAR. My roommate has this guitar that she has “neglected”. it’s literally screaming “SOMEONE SHOULD COME AND PLAY WITH ME”. I challenged her and told her I was going to learn to play the guitar before her. Good thing she’s going for her IT without it. I have gotten a tutor and my lesson will begin as soon as I’m done with my 1st semester exams. You all better get read for my covers!
3) TAKE A “SELFIE” WITH THE INSTITUTION THAT IS CHIMAMANDA NGOZI ADICHIE <<< Click on the link as it summarises my love for Chimamanda in few lines. How am I going to get that selfie? Cos everyone seems to be taking selfies with CHIMAMANDA and I’m supposed to be the one holding the phone high and smiling like an idiot…Not them. This is the plan though, I’m going to apply for next year’s Farafina Trust Creative Writing Workshop. Meaning I have to work my hands out by writing a nice story that would get me picked. That’s the plan.
Selfie with the BAE soon….
4) PUBLISH TWO BOOKS AT LEAST BEFORE I’M 30!!!
Just like Hunter S. Thompson said and I Quote “As things stand now, I’m going to be a writer. I’m not sure that I’m going to be a good one or even a self-supporting one, but until the dark thumb of fate presses me to the dust and says” YOU ARE NOTHING”, I’ll be a writer.”
This means a lot to me. I want to be a writer. I’ll be a writer.
I’ll be taking classes soon on photography and my NIKON baby is on the way. I’ve always loved photography. But now I think I’ll like to make a little something out of it.
P/S : Working on a project and I can’t wait to tell you all about it. But let’s leave the gist for the cooler.
6) TRAVEL THE WORLD. THAT IS TO SAY, I’LL GO FOR A HILLSONG CONCERT BEFORE I DIE! I’m a big fan of HILLSONG and really one of the things I want to do before God calls me home is to go for a concert in AUSTRALIA… I must tap into such heavenly form of worship.
I don’t want to bore you all. As time goes by and as I accomplish and become all I want to, I’ll tick them and post on the blog.
Think about it, if your life ended tomorrow, what would you regret not doing? Because you will die, you must live now. All we have is NOW.
Don’t be wrapped up in non-essential stuff that you forget to really enjoy yourself.
Right now I’m doing things I never thought I would do and could do. And everyone has noticed this change. The bucket list is getting longer and I’M AMAZED! Do something crazy, something out of character…My friends call me ADRIEL / CHIMDINMA 2.0 and won’t stop asking what happened to the older version of me. Everyone is practically tapping from my positivity without me even trying.
Anything could be in the list. You can make it a point to tell someone you love how much they mean to you, show an act of kindness without expecting something in return, surprise someone, be a mentor and an inspiration to someone, start that business, pursue your passion, volunteer to work with and for the less privileged or for a cause that you are passionate about, DO PUBLIC SPEAKING….Go for that picnic, learn that new language………
God, there’s so much to do!
Plan to amaze yourself!
Take that step.
Be a better version of Yourself.
Create your BUCKET LIST.
Live and stop existing.
BREAK THE DAMN RULES!!!
I have learnt to open my self to the world cos when you do just that the world will open its self to you.
Has any one noticed I’m a DADDY’S GIRL?! Oh yes! I am a DADDY’S GIRL and I’m so happy about this.
My daddy isn’t like most of the other “daddies”, he is involved in every single thing we do (Although he knows I’m a big girl now and gives me my space) .
He called me yesterday to know how I was doing and in the middle of the conversation he said :
“CHIMDINMA, YOU ARE A STAR.
NO ONE CAN DIM YOUR LIGHT.”
He went ahead to say;
“…I know you love writing so please keep doing it. It’s going to take you places…”
When someone believes in you just know that you’ve already gotten half of the work done.
The smile on my face was so WIDE though and I’ve decided to share this inspiring “quote” with you all.
From now on say to yourself : (YOUR NAME) I AM A STAR.
NO ONE CAN DIM MY LIGHT.”
If possible, send this your kids, your friends, your loved ones. You never know who might just be needing that word of encouragement.
Keep shinning buddies…
Do not let situations, circumstances, trials and tribulations dim your light. It’s not going to be easy but what I know for sure is this ; YOU ARE A STAR AND NO ONE, NOTHING, CAN DIM YOUR LIGHT(S) !!!
It doesn’t matter how long it takes, as long as you keep trying and believing you will shine.
Let the whole world see your light.
One very unique thing about me is this; I’m very good at writing stuffs that happen to me. I’m not really a fiction writer and when ever I get the chance to write MY book, I’m pretty sure it’s going to be a great combination of FICTION AND NON-FICTION.
Enough of the talk on fiction and non-fiction. Lemme tell you all what happened to me today.
You see right now I see my self as a 42 years old lady, even though I’m actually half that number in age – trust me I’m not the same person I was I was four months ago. My growth game is epic. Meaning, I’m beginning to take notice of every single thing I ignored in the past.
This Terrific Tuesday morning, I got up by 6:00am and before 9:00am, I was on my way to the school radio station where I volunteer. Being me is a bit complicated. Haha!
Couldn’t stay there for long so by 10:00am I was ready for the library.
Fast forward to 4:30pm, I was so tired. Had to go outside the school to get stuffs and when I got inside the school gate, I was way more tired. With my bag and hands full, I had to struggle for balance, I wasn’t in the smiling mood at all. I rushed to the nearest bus and asked if the driver was going my way, while I was asking, I noticed this chubby girl of 12-14 staring at me. And just when I turned to leave, she said and I quote :
ARE SO CUTE.
I couldn’t move. I just stared at her for a while and said “AWW, THANKS SWEETIE.” (Now I wish I took a picture of her)
She was so sincere. She couldn’t stop looking at me.
But the tiny doze of compliment from that little girl meant and still means the whole world to me.
Which brings me to this, compliments are so nice. IT CAN LITERALLY PLASTER A SMILE ON ANYONE’S FACE.
I remember few weeks back I was just on my bed staring into thin air, thinking about my life. A course mate of mine then came to the room and said:
“Chimdinma, I’ve been wanting to tell you since today, I LOVE YOUR TEETH, couldn’t stop looking at you while you were giving presentation in class today”
I was speechless at that moment. And I went to bed thinking about my set of teeth…mind you I have a tiny crack in one of my front teeth.
If someone genuinely compliments you, DO NOT DENY IT. ACCEPT IT. So many people are dying to get a doze of it.
A compliment is a verbal sunshine. Compliment people, magnify their strengths not their weakness. Learn to see the good in people. Tell someone you love their hair, the way they talk, the colour of their eyes, the way they laugh, how happy they make you.
Tell someone they’ve got the best smile and MEAN IT!!!
So that’s what happened to me today o. Hope you all learnt something. And just so you know, I’M REALLY CUTE!!! *Winks*
I’m not vain OK, just stating the obvious. Hahaha!!!
